Sir Gilbert Balfour 
Sir Gilbert was born about 1519 in Montquanie, Kilmany, Fifeshire, Scotland. Sir Gilbert's father was Sir Andrew Balfour and his mother was Janet Bruce. His paternal grandparents were Sir Michael Balfour and Marjory Drury. He had three brothers and a sister, named Commendator of Melrose Michael, Sir James, David and Isobel. He was the second oldest of the five children.-
