Lieutenant John BROWNING Sr. 
John was born on April 16th, 1749 in Culpeper Co., VA.. John's father was Frank (Frank) III and his mother was Frances Eman Norman. His maternal grandparents were Isaac Norman and Frances C. Courtney. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named William Lloyd, Shadrach, James, Charles H., James, Reuben, Isaac Norman, Francis, Sarah Frances, Betsey and Mollie. He died at the age of 69 on September 25th, 1818 in Laurel Mills, Culpeper Co., VA.. He was buried in Family Burial Ground At His Home Place..General Notes
Served in the Revolutionary War. At the beginning of the Revolution he enlisted and was at Valley Forge; he served through the eight years of the War, refusing a discharge offered him because of broken health, and was at Valley Forge and in the Yorktown Campaign. When the flagstaff was shot in two, while he was carrying it, he raised it again aloft and carried it to the end of the battle.

His official Army record read: Browning, John, 8th Company, 2nd Regiment in Continental Army, Col. Spotswood-1st Private. 2nd Ensign & 3rd Lieutenant.
