Mary E. was born on May 5th, 1894 in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. Mary E.'s father was William David Armes and her mother was Phoebe Ann Morrison. Her paternal grandparents were William Armes and Cinderella Conklin. She had four brothers and four sisters, named H. H., Charles Wesley, Turner Alvin, Wallace Jackson, Emma E., Matilda E., Eva M. and Lotta Marie. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.General Notes
