Sarah T. was born in 1865 in Grayson Co, KY.  Sarah T.'s father was Thomas J. Elder and her mother was Martha Sirles.  Her maternal grandparents were Joseph Sirles and Martha Roberts. She had three brothers and five sisters, named William, John W., Willmon, Pharaba Elizabeth, Fanny, Martha J., Peanna and Emeline.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
