Lydia was born in 1768 in Washington county, Tennessee. Lydia's father was William Russell and her mother was Agnes Smith. Her paternal grandparents were George Russell and Elizabeth Bean. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Lewis R, Willis, Mary, Agnes and Charlotte. She had three half-brothers named Thomas J, Jess and Samuel.-
