Parthena Julyan was born on November 25th, 1861 in near Joppa community, Grainger county, Tennessee. Parthena Julyan's father was Joshua Devereux Curl and her mother was Martha Elizabeth Coose. Her paternal grandparents were John Tyre Curl and Susannah Devereaux Hightower. She had six brothers and seven sisters, named LeRoy, John Williams, Robert Massengill, Theodore Temple, Walter Bruce, Infant son, Louisa Orlona, Laura Porter, Martha Evaline, Joannah Cunningham, Lavinia, Alice Amelia and Eliza Frances. She was the fourth youngest of the fourteen children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John Tiry, Alexander Benjamin, Sarah Elizabeth Love, Susan Marissa, Maggie Bell and Nancy Dela.-
