Alexander Cleage was born on January 11th, 1861 in Athens, Tennessee. Alexander Cleage's father was Alexander McCaine Brett and his mother was Mary Malvina Cleage. His maternal grandparents were Alexander Cleage and Jemima Hurst. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James Mulkaha, William Patrick, Cecil Rieves, Sallie or Sarah Ann, Ellen Katuel, Mary Jemima and Elme Hayes. He was the oldest of the eight children.-
