Alfred Avery was born on December 27th, 1884 in Carter, Kentucky. Alfred Avery's father was George Washington Withrow and his mother was Emma Elizabeth Smith. His paternal grandparents were Alfred Harvey Withrow and Judith Ann Jobe; his maternal grandparents were George Washington Smith and Carilda Jane Moore. He had a brother and a sister, named Mose and Carilda Jane. He was the oldest of the three children.-
