William was born in 1735 in Ireland.1  William's father was Robert Poage and his mother was Elizabeth Preston. He had a sister named Sarah.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 43 on September 3rd, 1778 in Fort Harrodsburg, Kentucky.1
