Nancy was born in 1857 in Lyles, (Hickman Co.), Tennessee. Nancy's father was William Burl McCord and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Beasley. Her maternal grandparents were John Pitts Beasley and Mary Bates. She had four brothers and five sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Samuel Adolphus, William Daniel, John Calvin, Miles, Ann, Mary, Donna, Lucy, Jane and Stillborn.-
