Henry Hudge McKee, CSA
Enlisted 6 Oct 1861, captured at Roanoke Island 8 Feb 1862,
paroled at Elizabeth City, N. C. 21 Feb. 1862.
Promoted to Sgt. on 15 Sept. 1862.
Hospitilized at Williamsburg, Va. on
20 May 1864. Retired to the invalid Corps
on 29 Nov. 1864.
He lost an arm and spent the rest of the war on the grave
digging detail.
Many years later coming out of Little River Presby. Ch.
one Sunday a group of visitors asked him if he remembered
burying a Yankee Gen. (they were his decendants), his response
was that he remembered burying this Yankee Gen. and could
locate the exact spot in which he was buryed, but that it would do
them no good because he figured that the damn yankee liked
niggers so well he buryed 17 in the same grave.
