Youth Killed
A Bethel youth died in a freakish accident on South Royalton's Dairy Hill Road last Thursday (6/16/1988) afternoon when his car rolled, pining the yourh between car and ground.
Edwin Ashley Jr., 17, was driving on Dairy Hill Road in his 1980 Chevette when he lost control trying to negotiate a left-hand downhill curve. The car left the road and went onto a lawn where it rolled.
Sgt. John Palmer of the Bethel Barracks said that teh Ashley boy was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the car when it rolled over. The car came down on the victim's head.
Ashley was pronounced dead at Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph. His was the 47th Vermont highway death of 1988.

Edwin Ashley
Edwin C. Ashley Jr. 16, was born in Randolph June 19, 1971, the son of Edwin and Regina (Hill) Ashley.
He was a student at Whitcomb High School in Bethel. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his parents of Bethel; one brother, Todd Ashley, and two sisters, Heather and Kimberly Ashley, all of Bethel; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamine Ashley of Gaysville; and his maternal grandfather, Reginald Hill of Bethel; aunts and uncles.
Graveside services were held Monday, June 20 at 11:00 am at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Bethel, with Rev. Ronald Rilling officiating.
The Day Funeral Home of Randolph was in charge of arrangements.
