Christ G. Lappley, son of John Lappley, Sr., of this village died at St.
Louis, Monday Feb. 4, 1901 from a relapse of the grippe which terminated
in that fatal disease pneumonia which caused his death. Mr. Lappley was
a member of the Masonic order and was kindly cared for during his illness
by members of that society at St. Louis. C. G. Lappley was born in the
town of Berry on July 3, 1867. The early part of his life was spent on
a farm. In 1896 he was a candidate for Assembly in the Third district,
but was defeated by Oscar Minch, the demoncratic nominee. Later he
entered the law department of the Valparaiso Normal School of Indiana but
finished his course at the Chicago Law College about a year ago. Since
than he has been doing law work in Chicago and St. Louis, where entered
a law firm Jan. 1st 1901. Mr. Lappley was a member of the local lodge
of Masons and of the Cross Plains camp of Modern Woodmen of America, and
was a studious genial gentleman who had won a large circle of friends.
The funeral will take place on Friday at 1 o'clock from the house;
services at the St. Lucas church, Rev. E.F. Sherbel officiating. The
funeral will be in charge of the Masons and the Woodmen will act as
escort. The interment will be at the new cemetery one mile north of
Middleton. The deceased was loved by all who knew him and many were
grieved to hear of his sudden death. He was not married and leaves a
mother, father, four sisters and five brothers to mourn his loss.
