Samuel Doty graduated from Yale in 1733.

On 20 September 1738, Samuel Doty willed land to his son Samuel Doty, including the house in which the son was then living.

On 18 June 1753, Andrew Lord and John Tully assisted Mrs. Margery Doty, guardian to Samuel Doty and John Doty, minor children of Samuel Doty deceased, to partition the land which the minors held with the heirs of Mrs. Sarah Stillman (1st wife of Benjamin Stillman), namely George Stillman and Samuel Stillman.

On 24 March 1759, Benjamin Towner and wife Abia sold to Samuel Stillman and Margery Doty the home of Captain Samuel Doty of Saybrook, deceased. On the same day Margery Doty, Samuel Doty, Elijah Lord and Sarah his wife sold the homestead of Captain Samuel Doty to Samuel Stillman.

On 22 November 1769 Margery Doty sold to her son-in-law Elijah Lord and her son Samuel Doty two parcels of land, reserving to herself "the use and improvement of the premises to myself during the term and time of my natural life".

On 6 June 1785, administration of the estate of the widow Margery Doty, late of Saybrook, was granted to son Samuel Doty of Saybrook, and his inventory of her estate was approved.
