William McComb attended Washington College. His wife was Susan Peters. He went to Lewistown, Illinois in 1837 and clerked for William Proctor. William McComb was assessor 1848 - 1852, merchant 1853-1860, Enrolling Officer in 1863 and took the census in 1870. He was a Presbyterian and Republican. May have been a school teacher in Lewistown.
William McComb's father was Robert McComb of Deleware. His mother was married to Jane Stephenson - probably in Washington Co., Pennsylvania about 1786 or 1787. Their children were:
