Grad.of Eton & Cambridge; studied law 3 yrs.,but took orders in Church of Eng. a Puritan in principal & came 1630 to MA with John Winthrop from Sudbury, Eng. where he had been settled; organized 1st Ch.of Boston; took sides against Ann Hutchinson; chaplain of Expedition against Pequots.
At the election of 1637, the party of Mr. Vane, fearing defeat, refused to proceed until a certain petition had been read. Mr. Winthrop's party protested the delay. And it is said that "Mr. Wilson, the minister, in his zeal, got up in a tree and there made a speech, advising the people to llk to their charter and to consider the present work of the day." His speech was well received by the people, who presently called out election, election, which turned the scale.
Wilson urged the death of a group, along with John Cotton, 2nd minister of Church at Boston, this group being led by Samuel Gorton, a religious leader.
