Narrative

On March 3, 1657, at La Rochelle, France, Gregoire indentured himself so he could get to Canada. He was signed into the service of the merchants Grignon, Gaigneux and Masse by Notary Pierre Moreau. He was to work for three years as a prison guard. In return, he was to get free passage to Canada and 70 livres per year. In Apirl 1657,, 'Les Armes d'Amsterdam' appeared in the harbor of La Rochelle. The ship set sail for "New France" on April 10, 1657 with Gregoire aboard. During some rough weather, the shio lost its rudder. It barely made port a Limerick, Ireland. After about a mounth, the ship set sail again, but she had more trouble. The seams in the hull opened, and she took on water. They made port in Quilmar on June 28, and set sales once again. If finally landed at its destination, Quebec, on August 20, 1657. Gregoire was finally in "New France". On janayr 10, 1661, Gregoire received 3 arpents of river frontage in Ste. Famille, Ile d'Orleans. He sold his land on July 25, 1661 for 80 livres. In June 1662, he purchased 3 arpents of river frontage in Ile d'Orleans. By 1667, he had 8 arpents of cleared land. On March 8, 1668, Grgoire received 3 arpents of frontage land, facing the Church of Sainte Anne de Beaupre across the river.
