"my brother Charles, a talented young man, wh had accompanied my father in all his hardships and battles, was now sent to West Point to receive a military education which was the idol of his heart and his prime happiness. When Gen. LaFayette visited America in 1825, my brother Charles commanded the Marine Corps sent to receive the grand old Marquis on his arrival in New York, and bid him welcome to our country for whose interests he had spent his treasure and endangered his life. My brother felt proud of this distinction.
m.1) in Boston, Catherine S. Powell of MA.; on 7 Jun 1831, Charles R. Floyd appointed natural guardian of his infant dau., Catherine Floyd, bond $8000. Gen. Charles R Floyd & Julia Ross Boog, dau. John & Isabella K. Boog, marriage licence 9 Sep 1831 Camden Co. GA. with the wedding at "Bellevue" 9 Sep 1831, and resided at "Fairfield", which place his father gave him, as his father had buildt a large handsome house at his father's place, "Bellevue", where he and family lived.
C.R. Floyd filled many military appointments, went to the Legislature, and was appointed to remove Indians from Florida, went through the Okefenokee Swamp, but the savages had but recently deserted their former abode on a large island in the heart of the swamp, where were found many things that had been recently used by them. The island has since been called Floyd Island. In the midst of his happiness and usefulness, and in the exercise of arms, literature and the greatest of all his talents, painting, he was stricken by disease, and fell a victum to liver affection at Fairfield, 22 Mar. 1845.
Richard, s. of Charles Rinaldo Floyd erected observatory in CA after Civil War; a manuel laborer, worked up from 2nd mate to Capt.; m. wealthy woman; rented train to go to CA; had son Harry of Long Beach, CA.
