Narrative
James John enlisted in the Civil War in Kane County in 1861. He served in Company H 52nd Regt. for 3 years. He was wounded in the Battle of Shiloh.
After the Civil Ware ended he and his family moved to Tennessee Township, McDonough County, Ill. He was a blacksmith by trade, operating a shop there and later in Colchester, Il.
By 1880, James and his family had moved to Norton, Co. Kansas where he continued to work as a blacksmith. For a time he had a blacksmith shop in Canon City, Colorado. Miners strikes in nearby Cripple Creek caused concern, as did Indian uprisings back in Kansas where his daughter lived. In the mid 1890's they returned to Norton Co. KS
