Justin Dewey was a farmer at Great Barrington where he died at age 80. He lived close to his brother Hugo. They were fine, jovial men, always together, noted for their sociability,and general good feeling, for their fondness of story telling and for their strong attachment to one another. He appears as private in Capt. Silas Goodrich's company, Col. John Ashley's regt., Berkshire County, Aug. 15-21, 1777, in action at Bennington, under Brig-Gen Stark, and discharged by him; as corporal in Capt. John King's Co., June 27 to July 4, 1780; marched by order of Brig-Gen Fellows for defense of West Point on alarm, June 27; in Capt. Thomas Ingersoll's co., served twelve days, eight days travel included, in October, 1781, at Stillwater by order of Brig-Gen Fellows.
