Farmer and dealer in Lumber.
Three years before his death, he had a shock, and was completely paralyzed, except for his left hand. He couldn't talk so his daughter, Eula, wrote out the alphabet on a piece of cardboard, and he would spell out the words by pointing to the letters. He carried on his business this way and he made $200.00 selling lumber before he died.
He was born and lived all his life on "The Grand View Farm", in West Hartford, Vermont, and also died there.
He had a tumer on the roof of his mouth. A doctor removed it by taking a hammer and chiesel and chipped a little bit out at a time while he laid on the table. He would work as long as he could stand it, then he would go home to recover and then return when he was able. It took several weeks to remove it. When it was fanally removed, he could not talk because of the hole in the roof of his mouth. He had a special plate made that fit over this hole which enabled him to speak.
