Emmer Clair Summers:
Census:1910; Fayette Co., Ohio: Head - Edward Summers (Emmer was age 9, born Ohio.
Obituary; Columbus Journal. Emmer was a Policeman. Death Certificate says suicide, however, witnesses believe he was murdered. Cause of death was a bullet wound to the head. He was shot in Tartle's Bar at 2903 E. 5th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio and died the next morning at St. Francis hospital. One of the two witnesses involved was suspected of being the murderer, however, the coroner at that time, Robert A. Evans, ruled the death as suicide. For years after the suicide, one of the witnesses, Evelyn Bodkins, placed threatening phone calls to Osia Summers. According to Ms. Bodkins and the other man she was with at the bar, Emmer just suddenly announced that he was going to kill himself and put the gun to his head. The story sounds fishy. When my husband and I inquired to see the coroner records at the Columbus Police Department, we were given the "run around". Somebody is still hiding the facts behind this supposed suicide.
Private, Medic, on Hospital Train 3 in World War I. Resided at the time of enlistment in Lima, Ohio. He enlisted on June 30, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio. He was honorably discharged 8 October 1919.
