Obituary --
James W. Huyck, 74, retired rural mail carrier, died at his home in Exira
at 3:30 Sunday morning after a lingering illness.
Mr. Huyck was born June 27, 1891 on a farm north of Exira, the son on
George and Sarah Rudge Huyck. He grew to manhood in this vicinity and
taught rural school in Audugon County. He was a rural mail carrier from
1916 until his retirement fifteen years ago. In August on 1910 he was
married to Hattie Struthers. Th this union were born three daughts and one
son. He was later married April 9, 1939, to Leola Schriereck. Mr. Huyck
was a member of the Exira Christian church.
Survivors besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Markley of Exira
and Mrs. Ella Markley of Santa Ana, California; a son, Elmer Huyck of
Clinton, Arkansas; a step-son, Ronald Schiereck of Dallas, Texas; seven
grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great grand-children; and a
sister, Mrs. Grace Esbeck of Exira.
He was preceded in death by a duaghter, Esther Huyck; three sisters, Mrs.
Roxie Clark, Mrs. Hattie McCord and Mrs. Susie Nelson; and a brother,
Charles Huyck.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Exira Christian
church, with the Rev. Neville Clayton officiating. Interment was in the
Exira cemetery.
