John was born on January 4th, 1776 in Litchfield, Litchfield, CT.1   John's father was Jonathan Wright and his mother was Leah Bissell.  His paternal grandfather was Samuel Wright. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Jonathan, James, Honor, Huldah, Sally, Sina, Sina and Polly. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Samuel, Charles, Susanna, Triphena, Marian and Alice.1
