1   Valentine's father was Philipp Wendell and his mother was Anna Margaretha.  His paternal grandfather was Hans Jacob Wendell. He had four brothers and a sister, named Augustine, Christophel, Johann Jacob, Johannes and Anna Elizabeth.1
