Ebenezer was born in 1723.1   Ebenezer's father was Josiah Welles and his mother was Elizabeth Smead.  His paternal grandparents were Ebenezer Wells and Mary Waite; his maternal grandparents were Ebenezer Smead and Esther Catlin. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Josiah, Simeon, Asa, Elisha, Joel, Martha, Elizabeth, Mary and Esther.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.1
