Josiah was born in October 1676 in NY City, NY.1   Josiah's father was Gerrit Stoffelse Van Sant(Sandt) and his mother was Lysbeth Gerretze.  His paternal grandfather was Christoffle Van Sant(Sandt); his maternal grandfather was Cornelius Gerretze. He had six brothers named Stoffel, Cornelius, Harman, Albert, Johannes and George (Joris). He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Gerrit, James (Jacobus) and Jessina.1
