"In Apr 1798, Thomas Travers, on behalf of the children then in the United States of his brother Patrick Travers, dec'd., a subject of his Catholic Majesty, petitioned of 3000 acres of Pine land at a place called Pigeon Creek on St. Marys River, for purpose of building a water saw-mill, and 300 acres of planting land on Amelia Island, at a place called the Horsepen. On a favorable reply of the engineer, Gov. White conceded the land to claimant in 1799; G. Clarke surveyed it in 1819, and Gov. Coppinger in same year issued royal title...
