1   Alfred's father was David Strayhorn and his mother was Catherine Cabe.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Strayhorn and Margaret Roan; his maternal grandparents were Barnaby Cabe and Elizabeth Perkins. He had three brothers and a sister, named Gilbert, John, Samuel and Eliza.1
