John Stebbins 
John was born in 1626 in England.1 John's father was Rowland Stebbins and his mother was Sarah Whiting. His paternal grandfather was Thomas Stebbins; his maternal grandparents were John Whiting and Sarah Smith. He had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Sarah and Elizabeth. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died in Northampton, Hampshire, Ma. He was buried in Old Burying, Ground.2 3 General Notes

John Stebbins of Roxbury 1651, bought that year a house in Springfield;
original proprietor of Deerfield, MA, owning 20 cow commons and drew house lot
#13; settled in Northampton; d.9 Mar 1679 in an unusual manner...there was
suspicion of witchcraft and a jury of inquest was called who found "several
hundres spots, small ones, as if they had been shot with small shot, which we
scraped and under them were holes into his body." An investigation was had the
evidence recorded and laid before the court in Boston, but no prosecution
followed. There is a tradition that he had been at work in a saw mill some
days before his death, and that some of the boards and logs, by the aid of
witches, made strange movements, whereby he was injured.
