1   Ruth's father was John Sprague and her mother was Ruth Basset.  Her paternal grandparents were Francis Sprague and Lydia Unknown; her maternal grandparents were William Basset and Elizabeth Tilden. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Samuel, Eliza, Desire and Dorcas.1
