Living's father was Edwin Dantis Pennington Spellman and his mother was Frances Ann Peyton. His paternal grandparents were James Pennington and Rena Austin; his maternal grandparents were Charles Lewis Peyton and Martha Alice Lykins. He had a brother and two sisters, named Wilbur Glenn, Betty Jane and Living. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Living and Living.-
