Abigail was born on July 8th, 1711 in East Haven, New Haven, CT.1   Abigail's father was Thomas Smith and her mother was Sarah Dow.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Smith and Elizabeth Patterson; her maternal grandfather was Samuel Dow?. She had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Samuel, Dow, Joseph, Benjamin and Elizabeth.1
