Ada Gertrude's father was George Hampton Sharpe and her mother was Mary Ella Bird. Her paternal grandparents were Green Duke Sharpe and Ann Elizabeth Zeigler. She had a brother and a sister, named Edward Mims and Nell Dell. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender, named George Tel, Green Kimball, John William, Paul, Laura, Mamie, Hattie, Mattie and Dreta.-
