Obituary: Ill only nine hours after a heart attack, Hiram Benjamin Sears, 83, retired farmer and well known naturalist and gardener, died at his home on the Nevada Road at 6:30 Tuesday night. Born two miles west of Bucyrus Oct. 19, 1864, he was the son of Benjamin and Melissa Minich Sears. His marriage to Martha Pearl Johnson took place June 17, 1902. The widow survives with two children, Richard E. of Shaker Heights, OH and John F. Sears of Lakewood; three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. John Dorrance of Carpinteria, CA and Miss Alice Sears of Bucyrus. Two brothers and three sisters preceded in death. Mr. Sears received his education in Bucyrus and was graduated from the high school. His activities included a short period during which he was associated with A. J. Hazlett before the turn of the century as publisher of the Crawford County News. He was recognized as an authoritive naturalist and was a member of the Bucyrus Garden Club. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Wise Funeral Home with the Rev. James Thomas, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be made in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends will be received in the funeral home from 7 to 9 o'clock Thursday night.
