Augustus was born about 1847 in Prusia.1   Augustus' father was Johannes Schlaeger and his mother was Friederika Scharping. He had two brothers and a sister, named Wilhelm Friedrich Johann, Herman and Wilhelmine Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died on March 28th, 1885 in Belknap Twp, Presque Isle Co, Michigan.1
