William was born on May 15th, 1813 in Cumberland Co., Tennessee.1   William's father was John (Jack) Rouse and his mother was Lydia N. Remington.  His paternal grandmother was Hannah; his maternal grandfather was Jacob Remington. He had a brother and two sisters, named Joseph, Margaret and Mary Jane.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 90 on August 25th, 1903 in Buchanan Co., Iowa.1
