John was born in 1805.1   John's father was John Rountree and his mother was Ralsey Thompson.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Rountree and Evy Sturgis. He had a brother named Thomas.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 77 in 1882 in Alabama.1
