James was born on September 14th, 1829.1 James' father was John Pickering and his mother was Mary Diselms. His paternal grandparents were Enos Ellis Pickering and Sally Conrad. He had three sisters named Martha, Sarah and Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 1 on October 20th, 1830.1
