George Nash 
George was born on September 2nd, 1834 in Ellisburgh, New York.1 George's father was Oliver Nash and his mother was Cynthia Pierce. His paternal grandparents were Oliver Nash and Mary Hooker. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Charles, Sidney S., Danford, Mary and Adeline. He was the second youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 73 on May 9th, 1908 in Platte, South Dakota.1 General Notes

Grandfather George Nash was a husky man, renowned for his great strength and skill as a hunter. While still in Illinois he went hunting deer in the woods of northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. He could throw a hammer [post maul] farther than any other member of the threshing crews. Here in pioneer Dakota he was the patriarch of the community and was known as "Uncle George" far and near. George Nash had an artesian well drilled by Peter Norbeck in 1898. It was one of the first in the community. The water pressure was so strong that water flowed over the top of the two 18" drill rods fastened end to end, towering above the drill tower to a height of 36 feet. This three-inch casing carried so much water that he and his sons made a five acre round reservoir to store the water.
George Nash was the postmaster at Flora, S.Dak. from 1891 until the railroad steamed into Platte in 1900.
