Elwin Smith was born in 1835.1   Elwin Smith's father was Erastus Nash and his mother was Achsuh N. Warner.  His paternal grandparents were Erastus Nash and Penelope Gaylord. He had two brothers and a sister, named Francis Lewis, Arthur Henry and Maria Williams.  He was the second oldest of the four children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Erastus Hall, Isabella Susan and Margaret Louisa.1
