James was born on August 11th, 1820 in Narborough, Leicestershire, England.1   James' father was John Lewis and his mother was Mary Stevens. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Harris, John, Charlotte, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the six children.1
