  John Lappley, 86, of 1303 W. Johnson St., retired carpenter contractor
  and lifelong Dane county resident, died Sunday  at a Madison hospital.
  Born in the town of Roxbury, Sept. 30, 1857, Mr. Lappley was the son of
  Mr. and Mrs. John M. Lappley, pioneer Dane county settlers.   Later the
  family moved to Berry.  In 1890 Mr. Lappley served as federal census
  taker for Berry.  Fifty-two years ago Mr. Lappley was married to Mary
  Holzwarth at Middleton by the late Rev. E.F. Scherbel.   The Lappleys
  lived for many years in Middleton, then moved to Fitchburg and in 1915
  came to Madison.   Besides the widow there survive six children, three
  grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers.  The children are: Paul W.
  Lappley, chief deputy sheriff; Herbert I. Lappley, president and
  managerof the Central garage; Dr. Walter F. lappley, a captain in the
  medical corps now serving in Italy; Melva Lappley and Mrs. Linda M. Hook,
  at home and Mrs. Oren Consear, wife of a Lutheran minister at Lewiston,
  Idaho.  The sisters are Mrs. William Brendler, Madison; Mrs. William
  Pierstorff, Middleton, and Mrs. Mary Froggatt, Albertville, Wis.  William
  F. Lappley, Oregon, and Fred Lappley, Middleton, are the brothers.  Mr.
  lappley was a member of Masonic Commonwealth lodge, No. 325.   Funeral
  services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, with
  Clarence B. Lester, a past master of Commonwealth lodge, in charge.
  Pallbears will be Fred and Henry Noll, Frank Tiedeman, C.J. Burrowbridge,
  Harold K. Myers, and Percy Tusler.   Burial will be in  Forest Hill
  cemetery.  The body is at the Fitch-Lawrence funeral home.
