Marinus "Martin" Antonie was born on September 2nd, 1864 in Tholen Netherlands.1 Marinus "Martin" Antonie's father was John Knop. He was an only child. He died at the age of 81 on February 7th, 1946 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.1

Marinus "Martin" Knapp (1864-1945). Also called "Uncle Mart." M.A. Knop (Marinus Antonic) became a citizen of the U.S. in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 5, 1898. It is believed the name Knop was later changed to Knapp by his older children..
He often told of how his ancestors fled England because of religious persecution. It is thought that the family name was Knapp in England and changed to Knop when they got to the Netherlands. Sometime later it was again changed to Knapp.
Kate Kalkman worked as a housekeeper for Martin Knapp after his wife Alice Mendardi died. They later married and had many children. See Kate Kalkman. Martin Knapp worked in a furniture factory and a piano factory. His last job was a janitor at a Masonic lodge in Grand Rapids.
Martin Knapp died in 1945 from uremic poison following surgery. He is buried in Restlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
