John D. was born on February 2nd, 1868.1   John D.'s father was Jacob Kauffman and his mother was Mary A. Dilling.  His maternal grandparents were George Dilling and Elizabeth Longnecker. He had four brothers and a sister, named Jacob D., Ira D., Harvey D., George D. and Martha D..  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 23 on March 31st, 1891.1
