Ned Lloyd's father was Henry Clay Johnson and his mother was Ethel Dixon Miller. His maternal grandparents were Minnick Hall Miller and Laura Lyon Watkins. He had five brothers named Philip Louis, Henry Clay, James Stanfield, Robert Dixon and Samuel Miller.
