Jacob was born about 1724 in German Flatts Herkimer County, New York.  Jacob's father was Hans Michael Ittig and his mother was Elizabeth Unknown.  His paternal grandparents were Michael Ittig and Eva Unknown. He had two brothers and a sister, named Marcus, Johann Michael and Maria Barbara.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
