Elizabeth was born in Salisbury, Essex, MA.1   Elizabeth's father was John Hoyt and her mother was Frances Unknown. She had five brothers and seven sisters, named John, Joseph, Joseph, Gregory, Thomas, Frances, Marah, Dorothy, Mehetable, Sarah, Mary and Naomi.1
