Mata's father was Albert Hopp and her mother was Olga Kreft.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Hopp and Johanna Maria Adrian. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Herbert, Albert, Arthur, Paul, Russel, William, Adeline, Elna, Ida and Lora.
