Samuel was born in Mendon.1   Samuel's father was William Holbrook and his mother was Elizabeth.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Holbrook and Elizabeth Leland. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Cornelius, John, Experience, Milicent and Persis.1
